Hammers and Nails Ladies…

For the past few weeks, I’ve stopped playing Ragnarok Online… Yeah I got bored and I’m busy doing something.

But of course, the kid inside me won’t let me stop playing, and since RO’s not really of help to make my playing instinct satisfied, I diverted my attention with a new game. That is Company of Heroes. By the way, Thanks to Ramon for lending me the disc to play the game. Good thing that I visited Camp Big Falcon weeks ago to get the game.. :) On the other hand, I trade my C&C3 for him to enjoy the game as well.

The first thing that he told me about the game was:

Gusto mo nang aksyon? Laruin mo to.

And the game didn’t fail me. I confess that I’m an addict for RTS games. Thanks to Westwood’s C&C. This game captured the hearts of every kid or adult alike. Anyway, about COH…

Basically, I loved the gameplay of COH. The setting of the game is based on the conflict of Allied and Axis Powers during the Second World War. Particularly concentrating on American and German troops. I only got a frown during the campaign mode since only the Allied forces are given the chance to have a campaign (but excellent story line for the Allies).

In every RTS game, resources are critical. If C&C has tiberium, and Starcraft has minerals and vespene gas, COH has strategic points. There are three types of resources in the game, namely: Manpower, Fuel and Munitions. And you can find these resources throughout the game. But the player must establish a supply line in order to collect the resources. Giving an advantage to the player’s economy.

Axis’ units tend to be more expensive as compared to their Allied counterparts…. Axis units are obviously stronger and harder to breach.

In most RTS games, there’s less attention that’s been given to infantry units. Company of Heroes cut the tradition. Actually, you control a squad of rifleman instead of a single soldier. And if you’re used to the game, a simple rifle squad can do some damage. I mean it. :) And the logic of bullets vs. composite armors been proven in the game too. Three or four rifleman won’t be able to topple town a Panzer tank by flushing them with bullets. Sticky bombs can, but rifles? Asa.

Wanna see what COH looks like? Here. Take a look.

Can you see the detail of the surroundings? Neat eh? What made my jaws dropped off the floor was you can actually zoom in to the units itself. If a MG crew or sniper enters a building, they won’t just raise a flag and start firing… You can actually see them opening the door or window, and start shooting and hide again. :D

An allied unit docked at a building. Wait… Isn’t that an Axis Armor?

And of course, the sound and music of the game’s awesome… COH didn’t lay a waste in this section. Its as if you’re in the battle field… You can hear the troops cursing while firing at their enemies, and when they cuss, THEY CUSS. Lol. Sometimes, you select a unit off-screen, you can actually hear the unit responding as if it’s talking to a radio. :D sweet…

No wonder why PC gamer hailed this masterpiece the best game last 2006… Well, what can I say, I’m just a player, and all I can do is agree. and yeah, I appreciate the work of those people who made this game possible. Panalo. :D

Germans drag racing along a cross fire. Lol.
